 The Executive Committee met today (26/03/10) to consider the feedback, both positive & negative, received from Public Officers concerning the process used to make the recommendation of the Public Service Commission representative. As was stated previously in the blog, the General Council (GC), which consists of staff representatives of each ministry and department, is the forum in which the business of the Association is conducted and a decision such as this would have been made. In lieu of the fact that there is not a functioning GC, the Executive Committee looked at a potential list of persons and made a decision accordingly.

We think it is fitting for us to continue the conversation started at the beginning of the year in our New Year’s Message in February 2010 about the necessity for radical change, borne out poignantly in the 2010 Budget Speech. In a phrase: Public Servants need to be about business UNusual.
 
Our attitudes and mindsets have to change as to why the Public Service exists and the vital role we play in the development of our country. Leadership exists in all levels of an organisation and the government is no exception. It is time for every public officer to step up to the call of action that has been issued. Gone are the days of two and three hour lunches. It’s time to get down to the business of the people. Any state of affairs we find ourselves in today is not an overnight phenomenon but a gradual neglect of priorities and we have to take collective responsibility from grades 1 to 21 for turning things around.
